🍺 The Pub World Cup

Welcome! Your goal is simple: take your local pub team of unfit, overweight drunken misfits and guide them to become champions of the Pub World Cup 2026. The road to glory won't be easy. You'll battle through a full World Pub Cup tournament, starting with three Group Stage matches before fighting your way through the Knockout Rounds: the Round of 32, Round of 16, Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, and, if your liver survives, the Grand Final.

Can your team make history, or will they be back propping up the bar by the end of the week?

⚽ 5-Aside Pitch Mechanics

Matches are played in a fast-paced 5-aside format. Here's how team selection and roles work:

Starters: You must select exactly 5 active players on the field: 1 Goalkeeper, and 4 outfield players.
Position Roles: Outfield positions are categorized as Defender, Midfielder, or Striker. Match simulation computes performance based on how well players align with their position.
Formations: Choose your tactical layout (e.g. 2-1-1, 1-2-1, or 2-2) from the Tactics room to match your squad's strengths.
Drag-and-Drop Positioning: In the Tactics view, you can drag and drop your active players on the tactical board to adjust their default positions and exploit spaces!

📊 Player Attributes & Stats

Every player in your tavern has three core attributes rated from 1 to 10:

🛡️ Tackling Determines defensive stops, tackles, and intercepts. Critical for Defenders.

👟 Passing Determines build-up speed, possession, and goal assists. Essential for Midfielders.

🎯 Shooting Determines final shots, clinical finishes, and goal scoring. Crucial for Strikers.

Additionally, player face designs are randomized, and each squad assigns unique numbers (1-99) to keep jerseys easily distinguishable on the pitch.

🔄 Transfer Market & Budget

Tavern currency is measured in pints of beer (Pints 🍺).

Signing Players: Use your Pint balance to sign high-rated stars from the transfer list. Buying a player automatically assigns them a unique, unused jersey number.
Selling Players: Clean up your squad size by selling surplus bench players to earn extra Pints.
Safety Safeguards: To prevent soft-locks, you cannot sell a goalkeeper if they are the only goalkeeper remaining in your squad.

🏆 Tournament Scoring & Rules

Points are awarded based on match outcomes:

Match Win: +3 Points (+2 points for goals scored, +3 points for clean sheet, and -1 point per goal conceded).
Match Draw: +1 Point.
The Pub Cup Bonus: Surviving and winning the Grand Final awards an additional 50 points!
Leaderboard: Compete to save your score to the Hall of Fame. Winning the tournament with fewer transfers/pints spent maximizes your high score!
