Behind the Scenes: Inside the 5-Aside Match Engine

Behind the 2D canvas of our matches sits a real-time physics and attribute-based simulation. Let's look at how stats and positions translate to goals.
๐ Drag-and-Drop Formations
When you reposition your players in the Tactics Room, you aren't just changing a visual diagram. You are changing their Initial Anchors in the engine:
- Defender Anchor: Pulling a defender deeper ensures they stand close to the penalty box, preventing long-range counter-attacks.
- Midfielder Anchor: Keeping a midfielder high supports the striker, but they might struggle to track back in transition.
- Role Synergy: Outfield performance increases when players stay close to their natural zones (Defender, Midfielder, Striker). Keeping a defender up front yields poor shooting results!
๐ฒ Attribute Weighting
During every simulation frame, player interactions run check calculations against three core stats: Tackling, Passing, and Shooting:
- Tackling: Calculated when an opponent carrying the ball enters a defender's tackle radius. Higher tackling boosts the probability of ball-steals and intercepting passes.
- Passing: Influences ball speed and the accuracy vector of passes. High passing helps outfielders deliver clean, diagonal assists to strikers.
- Shooting: Used whenever a player takes a shot. It determines the deviation from the goal target and shot speed, making it harder for the keeper to react.
๐งค Keeper Math
The keeper has a custom AI loop. Once a shot is registered, the keeper calculates an interception vector. High goalkeeper rating shrinks the goalie's "delay window", allowing them to dive quicker to the corners.
